Embedded Motor Control Engineer

Beacon Power designs and builds sustainable energy storage systems that can deliver “megawatts for minutes” to provide power grid frequency regulation, as well as support other applications. We’ve recently moved into a new headquarters facility and are expanding our workforce. We have an immediate opening for a Embedded Motor Control Engineer.

Responsibilities:

• The candidate will develop embedded software for three phase Active Rectifier and Three phase Permanent Magnet Motor Drive.
• Tasks consist of developing real time DSP algorithms for controlling rectifiers and inverters, developing software for controlling the operation of the system , user interface software and software for external CAN communications. The candidate will be responsible for developing code in several of these areas.
• Analyzes, designs, codes and test software used in 25KWH/100KW flywheel.
• Develops software that meets coding standards and product design requirements.
• Documents and formally releases embedded software following company procedures.
• Develops test plans and monitors test results.
• Develops knowledge of UPS topologies and control circuitry to determine embedded software      requirements.
• Perform peer design reviews for other members of the team.
• Works to meet project schedules. Works well with other team members.

Minimum Requirements:

• BSEE, BSCE
• In-depth knowledge of the “C”/”C++"
• Understanding of Real time operating systems.
• Ability to develop firmware that interfaces with complex peripherals such as Pwm Timing Units, Uarts, CAN Controllers, Analog / Digital Converters.
• Knowledge of structure design techniques.
• Understanding of Control Theory and Power Electronics is a plus.
• Experience with TI DSP is a plus.
